Red day lunch

It's DaRC's birthday, and a few of us gathered to help him celebrate the occasion.   It's been ages since I last had dim sum at Seventh Son (家全七福), and I was glad to be back.

Steamed vegetarian dumplings (花素蒸餃)

Barbecued whole suckling pig (大紅片皮乳豬全體) - can't come here without getting that pig!  I was very restrained today, though... Didn't even try to grab one of the legs.  A decision I would later regret.

Steamed prawn dumplings (七福鮮蝦餃) - definitely sub-par today.  Not much flavor to be honest, and actually the prawns were a little 'off'.

Deep-fried cuttlefish - can't go wrong with this.

Old fashioned siu mai (懷舊燒賣) - made with pork, salted fish, shrimp, and coriander.  Really nice.  The small amount of salted fish was just enough to bring out lovely flavors.  Gotta order this next time.

Steamed sandwiches of boneless chicken with 'Kim Wah' ham and shiitake mushroom (金華玉樹雞) - a.k.a. "white girl chicken".  Hello Kitty requested this for the veg, and of course Ro Ro loves this, too.  As for me... I love the slices of bamboo shoots, but I wish they would slice the ham thinner so it wouldn't be as salty.

Deep-fried egg custard with morel mushrooms (素戈渣) - I requested that we not have the regular version with chicken testicles...

A few of us were not in the best condition today, so the alcohol consumption was way, way down...

2009 Moutard Cuvée des 6 Cépages, dégorgée le 2 juillet 2019 - a little dusty, flinty, a little ripe.

Jyuyondai Red Label - banana, melon, glutinous rice balls, very fragrant, with good depth on the palate.

A pretty good lunch, with our birthday boy in red, a bottle of sake with a red label, and of course, the roast suckling pig with that red crackling...
