The last dim sum

We have an alumnus back in town for a few days, and since our beloved Metropol Restaurant (名都酒樓) is closing its doors in 2 days, our friend requested that we do lunch there today. We are grateful that Mamo grabbed a table for the three of us, because we would have had to wait a pretty long time for a table!

Our friend apparently brought a ferocious appetite with him, so he was out grabbing anything and everything - ignoring the fact that there were only three mouths at the table... and one of them was at half capacity.

Steamed spare rib in black bean sauce (豉汁蒸排骨)

Pork knuckle egg and ginger in vinegar (秘制豬腳薑) - I love this dish, and I'm just happy that I can enjoy it here one last time.

Steamed pork dumpling with crab roe (蟹籽燒賣皇)

Soy sauce chicken with marinated jellyfish (玫瑰豉油雞配海蜇皮) - I guess someone really missed the Cantonese soy sauce chicken...

Blanched choy sum (白灼菜心)

Not sure what these shrimp dumplings were, but I liked them more than the standard har gau.

Steamed pork dumpling with crab roe (蟹籽燒賣皇) - obviously someone was so hungry that he forgot we already grabbed another steamer basket of this...

I was looking for the lady with the cheung fun (腸粉) cart, and briefly relived the traditional experience of chasing down a dim sum cart with the dishes I wanted. That was fun!

Steamed rice noodle roll with B B Q pork (叉燒腸粉) - and these are the fruits of my labor, after running around half the restaurant looking for it...

Pan-fried turnip cake (香煎蘿蔔糕) - these were more salty than I remembered.

Deep-fried mashed taro dumpling (蜂巢荔芋角) - I tasted five spice (五香) today, and unfortunately a tad of baking soda this time.

Steamed shrimp dumpling (水晶鮮蝦餃) - these have always been decent.

Sweetened bean curd (山水豆腐花) - having missed out on my favorite dessert here last time I came, I made sure not to repeat the mistake this time... by getting a bowl right after arriving. This tastes just as good cold so I didn't mind that I waited more than an hour to enjoy this. So happy! But also sad that this was to be my last bowl here.

So that's the damage for the three of us today... not too shabby!

Since the restaurant had set up a corner just for people to take pictures, we thought we should take a group pic to commemorate the visit for two of us.

Farewell, Metropol. Thanks for all the memories. I look forward to seeing the dim sum carts in Kwun Tong soon.
