It's been a while since My Friendly Neighborhood Prime Broker and I had a catch-up session, and a kind invitation came for lunch at Duddell's (都爹利會館). I haven't been back here in YEARS, so it's always nice when someone gives you an opportunity to revisit a place like this.
Neither of us wanted to make decisions on what to order, so my host decided on the Executive Lunch set. There won't be any upside surprises, since these usually play it pretty safe.
We started with a steamer of the dim sum selection (點心拼盤):
Scallop siu mai (帶子燒賣) - nice to have the scallop on top, which added a nice jolt of seafood flavors.
Har gau (蝦餃)
Steamed dumpling with vegetables (素菜蒸餃) - this was pretty tasty.
Today's classic daily soup (經典老火湯) was pork soup with winter gourd and Job's tears (冬瓜薏米瘦肉湯).
Sautéed scallop and sliced chicken with X.O. sauce (X.O.醬鳳片帶子) - the X.O. sauce certain makes the flavors more punchy, giving it a nice, spicy kick.
Crispy local beef brisket (脆皮本地牛坑腩) - the brisket came with a little bit of fat that was nice and tasty, and of course having a crispy layer of fried batter on the outside didn't hurt.
Braised Chinese cabbage with mushroom, Chinese ham and abalone sauce (鮑汁麒麟燴津菜)
Fried rice, fresh crab meat, egg white, conpoy (鮮蟹肉金柱蛋白炒飯) - can't go wrong with this classic.
Chrysanthemum jelly (菊花啫喱)
Black Sesame roll (芝麻卷) - always happy to see this.
Happy to have had a chance to come back for lunch. I don't get to have these "executive lunch" too often, so it's always interesting to see how restaurants put them together.
